Are you really Hungry?

Our body has many hormones. One of them is the leptin hormone. It signals your brain to put the fork down. This hormone malfunctions when we consume excess sugar and especially fructose.
Fructose is the sugar that’s naturally found in fruit. Combine that with the all-time high consumption of processed foods containing high fructose, we now average more than 45 grams/daily of sugar consumption in the USA. We are overdosing and causing a de-regulation of our hormonal system. The brain receptors for leptin and other hormones can’t maintain balance.
It’s like a flood gate of excess sugar headed straight to our fat storage. When you’re overweight and/or experience blood sugar issues, fructose can become a problem. Your fat cells can produce too much leptin. Blasting the brain with excess leptin overwhelms the brain’s receptors and stops the hormone lepton from functioning properly. You are stuck in a false sense of perceived starvation. You crave more sugar.
You are leptin resistant. This is why they call this hormone the “hunger hormone.”
If you’re struggling to lose weight, stop eating processed food. We should all be concerned about our body’s ability to function properly. It’s not the number of birthdays aging our bodies as much as it is the type of fuel we are poking in our mouth and our mind. Please, stop eating so much sugar. You are purposefully destroying your body’s ability to function properly. You are creating dis-ease.
The bottom line, sugar is inflammatory, as are refined carbs, and unhealthy fats. Many of the substances are dangerous for our brains. The number one reason for disease is INFLAMMATION.
Start today by tapering your fruit consumption.
Will you have withdrawal or cravings when you decide to lower your sugar intake? ABSOLUTELY. Your body is addicted if you regularly eat anything white. It’s a sugar fix your brain is addicted to and WILL demand you give it more. I’m talking about bread, pastries, cookies, crackers, pancakes, syrup, fruity yogurt…it’s all processed with low nutrition and highly addictive.
Those food manufacturers are tricky. They have managed to hide sugar. Labels do not tell the whole truth. Your body knows it though. So, don’t be fooled by the 56 different names for sugar. Here’s just a few. Dextrose, fructose, lactose, glucose, lactose, maltose, sucrose. There’s high fructose corn syrup, molasses, Agave, beet sugar, coconut sugar and don’t forget about concentrated fruit juices. they are definitely on the sugar list.
I teach all of my weight wellness clients to start by making a list of everything they eat or drink for a few days. Look in your pantry. Read a few labels. If it’s in a box, chances are its got flour or sugar as the first or second ingredient. All labels are required to list the largest amount of ingredients in descending order. Another tip, if you can’t pronounce a word, it is probably not real food. The more times they list sugar in any quantity the higher the sugar spike.
I mention starches such as flour because they too are responsible for th0se quick sugar spikes surging in the bloodstream, namely potatoes, rice, flour, corn, and other grains. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying you must stop eating them forever. I am saying, you have got to lower your sugar intake if you want to lose some fat. A daily overdose of these items is the reason you are overweight.
I mentioned the cravings and withdrawals. The only way to manage them is by managing your mind. Your brain is in control 95% of the time. NOT YOU. It will sabotage you faster than the sugar withdrawal. Your brain is more than happy to ignore all your will power to lose weight. You eat it-a lot, and now your brain is addicted to it and wants more. It’s time to learn the simple skill of re-training your wildly unsupervised mind. Check it out for yourself. Oh, by the way, most of the sugar you eat goes immediately to fat now. However, there is a magic pill to help you change that. It’s hard to swallow because it requires:
- A decision
- Taking responsibility
- Commitment
- Honesty
- Removing your ego
- Time and consistency
Take responsibility today for the kind of fuel you are feeding your brain and body. What you have done in the past is over. What happens in the future will be the result of what you’re doing now.
PS—4 grams of sugar = 1 tsp of granulated sugar. A plain bagel averages 11 grams of sugar.
