I was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas. As a child, I worked hard in my family’s multiple businesses. Surrounded by my two powerful grandmothers and mother, I quickly adapted to the excitement of my mother and grandmothers’ lives.
All of my family were entrepreneurs. My mother was a travel writer and photographer for a large hotel chain, traveling extensively through Mexico.
Both of my grandmothers were well-known, successful entrepreneurs, owning several businesses, from real estate to selling custom-made designer clothing to the wealthy ranchers and farmers.
My paternal grandmother was the first police woman in the state of Texas who trained under J. Edgar Hoover.
I earned two associate degrees, with an emphasis on business management and real estate from Amarillo College and Northlake College in Irving, Texas.
“There are lessons to be learned from everyone,
you only have to be aware of the gift being offered.”
My path to seeking further knowledge includes a Broker’s licenses in five states, owning my own Nouveau Design custom bedding and lingerie business, and a lifetime of coaching other professional women. I’ve been certified by Louise Hay’s Heal Your Life, and I’m certified as a Mid-life and Weight Wellness coach with Brooke Castillo’s The Life Coach School.
Even as a workaholic,I embraced marriage and raising my child, Nikki. To balance my desire to be a career woman and raise my daughter, I also worked nights and weekends for an airline. Later I found a better balance in the coaching and real estate worlds, and as Nikki grew, I fulfilled yet another dream, that of owning my own business.
“There is a saying in the coaching world that we coach what we need to learn most about ourselves.” Coaching has been a major part of my adult life. “There are lessons to be learned from everyone, you only have to be aware of the gift being offered.”
Today, I live with my second husband in Kentucky near two of our three daughters. I continue to work, not only building the Empower Your Story coaching business with my daughter, but also with senior living. Assisting people with dementia is a project close to my heart. I spent years being professionally trained in this area. I’ve had several family members suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia, so this training has served me well.
I’m also a huge health nut. I eat primarily whole food to maintain my health and active lifestyle. I’m dedicated to a lifetime of studying nutrition. Nutrition supports my amazing vitality and my desire to enjoy each day to the fullest.
The secret happy sauce is knowing “everyone has the choice to either embrace or fight the ups and downs we are all served up in life.” I choose to embrace.
“Shitty things do happen, but it’s never those circumstances feeding our river of misery in the form of pain and suffering. It can only be caused by the story we tell ourselves. It is that story that determines our level of happiness.”
It is truly clear to me that the cause of all problems, and their solutions, reside inside each of us. When we willingly engage in balancing these two favorite things: feeding our brains with healthy thoughts and eating the proper food that nourishes our hearts, souls, and bodies, our lives are enriched. My eleven grandchildren tell me that when they get to be my age they want to be just as excited and interested in exploring all things!
“The quality of your life is determined by what you choose to feed it daily.”
